Porsche 914 & 914/6 Factory Tool Kits

Because the Porsche^® 914/4 was  assembled by Volkswagen, the tool kits included greatly resembled the VW kits of the era and included several identical items. The 1970 through 1971 Porsche 914 tool kits contained the following:

1.   Vinyl tie-wrap bag (colors were grey, black or brown(ish) with black, grey, red or off-white straps)

2.   160mm combination pliers*

3.   Long shaft 21mm spark plug wrench with four positions (holes) for tommy bar

4.   Straight 190mm long Tommy bar with black oxide finish for use with spark plug wrench

5.   140mm long 19mm lug bolt socket with oxide finish

6.   "Bent" Tommy bar, 370mm long, for use with lug socket

7.   Hazet "V-10" 8-13mm open end wrench

8.   Reversible combination screwdriver with black plastic handle

9.   Hubcap removal tool

10. Tow eye-hook.

* The 160mm combination pliers were included in all 1970-1971 and some (but not all) 1972 Porsche 914 tool kits. More information on the pliers is available on the "Pliers" page (obviously). The tool kit information as printed in the 1971 Porsche 914 owner's manual is pictured at left (the 1970 manual includes the same information).

The 1972 through 1973 Porsche 914 tool kits contained the following:

*Some 1973 Porsche 914 tool kits screwdrivers has white-ivory colored handles.

As noted above, some 1972 Porsche 914 tool kits contained 160mm combination pliers.

The 1974 through 1976 Porsche 914 tool kits were victims of a cost reduction effort. They contained the following:

1.  Black plastic bag with ventilation holes, secured with black rubber band

2.  19mm lug bolt socket^±

3.  "Bent" Tommy bar, 370mm long, for use with lug socket

4.  Hazet "DIN 895" 10-13mm open end wrench⁺

5.  Reversible combination screwdriver with black plastic handle

6.  Hubcap removal tool (not included in 1975 & 1976 kits)⁺

7.  Tow eye-hook.

^± The lug socket provided with the Porsche 914 tool kit changed prior to (or during) the 1975 model year.  The length was reduced from 140mm to 100mm and the finish was changed from black oxide to silver cadmium or zinc plating.

⁺ The 10-13mm open end wrench was included in all 1974-1976 Porsche 914 tool kits as documented in the parts catalog but not the owner's manuals. Similarly, the hubcap removal tool was included in all 1974 Porsche 914 tool kits as documented in the parts catalog but not the owner's manuals. The tool kit information as printed in the 1974 Porsche 914 1.8 & 2.0 Driver's Manual is pictured at left. Note that these later kits have been reduced to the extent that they no longer warrant pictures.

Porsche 914/6 models were finished at the Porsche Zuffenhausen factory. They were outfitted with the same tool kit as Porsche's only other model at the time, the 911, though the 914/6 kit also included an appropriate tow eye-hook.

NOTE: For the Concours crowd, I believe the Pudenz fuse pack originally would not have been in the tool bag; it would have been in the glove compartment. Therefore, I do not have it pictured with the tool kit, although I have a page describing/picturing it in this section.
