Beginning with the 1974 model year, the "base" package Porsche 914
came with painted, "styled" steel wheels, As such, no 1974-1976 Teeners
had
hubcaps. Despite this fact, every Porsche 914 factory tool kit
throughout the entire production run included a simple curved
steel-wire
hubcap puller designed to be used in conjunction with the lug wrench
tommy bar. It is surprising that, with the cost-containment
effort
affecting the tool kit so dramatically during the 1973 model
year, the obvious step of not including an unnecessary tool (no
matter how inexpensive) would have been overlooked.
it is likely that
many of the hubcap pullers were removed at the dealership or discarded
by owners if the car in question had no hubcaps. Fortunately, this is
the same item included in VW tool kits of the era, so locating a
factory replacement is easy and inexpensive.
