Current
eBay listings for Porsche 914 and 914/6 factory tool kit bags (if any
tool kit bags are listed, compare them with the descriptions and examples on this page to ensure authenticity):
The
1970-1973 Porsche® 914 tool kits came in a vinyl tie-wrap pouch (case colors
are grey, black or brown(ish), ties are black, grey, red or off-white). Identical tool bags were used in
multiple VW® models throughout the late '60s and early '70s.
The
1974-1976 Porsche 914 tools came in a small, black, plastic pouch secured with a matching
black rubber band. The bag has three ventilation holes to help prevent rust.
Identical tool bags were used in multiple VW models throughout the early-mid '70s. Not surprisingly, the vast majority of these bags have been thrown away,
torn, or otherwise destroyed.
Unlike
their 914/4 brethren that were assembled in Wolfsburg by Volkswagen, The
1970-1972 Porsche 914/6 models were assembled and finished in Zuffenhausen by Porsche. Subsequently, they were outfitted with the higher quality tool kits
used in Porsche's only other model made at the time, the 911. The Porsche
914/6 tools came in a black "basketweave" vinyl bag
with a light tan interior containing 10 stitched pockets and one
snapping flap (to contain the top of the lug wrench). The bag closures are a
pair of chromed, spring-actuated clasps. The interior snap is painted gloss
grey.
