Porsche 914 Factory Tool Kit Bags
Very Volkswagenesque
The Porsche 914 cars were assembled in the Wolfsburg Volkswagen
facility and contained engines based on the Volkswagen Type 4 boxster
platform. It is therefore not surprising that the Porsche 914 tool kits
closely resemble the VW tool sets of the era. The tool bag is no
exception; it is the same item provided with the VW Beetle, Ghia and
pickup trucks delivered during that model year. Resultingly, obtaining
a correct tool bag for a 1970 to early1973 Porsche 914 is fairly easy.
Unfortunately, as described below, the later 1973-1976 models were
supplied with bags so cheaply made that few original examples remain
despite the high volume produced.

914 Factory Tool Bags on eBAY
1970 - Early 1973 Porsche 914 Tool Bags
1970-1973 Porsche 914 tool kits came in a vinyl
tie-wrap pouch (case colors are grey, black or brown, ties are black,
grey, red,
blue or off-white). Identical tool bags were used in
multiple VW models throughout the late '60s and early '70s. Normal
problems include torn straps, torn vinyl, dried vinyl and staining.
Mid 1973 - 1976 Porsche 914 Tool Bags
Mid 1973 through 1976 Porsche 914 tools came in a small, black, plastic pouch secured with a matching black rubber band. The bag has three ventilation holes (front and back) to help prevent rust. Identical tool bags were used in multiple VW models throughout the early-mid '70s. Not surprisingly, the vast majority of these bags have been thrown away, torn or otherwise destroyed.
