914/6 Paint Colors & Codes
The
chasses for the Porsche 914 and Porsche 914/6 model lines were identical. They
were all produced by Karmann in the same factory. Subsequently, the color
choices for the Porsche 914 and Porsche 914/6 models were also identical,
although Porsche assigned different paint codes to the 914/6. These
Porsche-assigned codes all ended in "10," denoting the black (Targa)
roof. Not surprisingly, this alternate paint code format created confusion,
resulting in the decision to standardize on the VW paint codes being used for
the four cylinder cars. This change occurred during the 1971 model year
production run.

you are looking for more in-depth research into how Porsche handled the 914 and
914/6 paint code conventions (among other things), take a look at the RoadGlue
Wiki. It contains some excellent information.
