& 914/6 Acceleration Charts
Porsche®
914 vehicles were not designed for drag racing, and the acceleration
numbers show it. With stock quarter-mile times ranging from 18.0 to 19.5
seconds and 0-60 times from 12.0 to 13.5 seconds, Porsche 914
acceleration is fairly laughable by today's standards. If you live a
quarter-mile at a time, the Porsche 914 is not a good choice. The
chart below is a composite of the acceleration curves for the various
Porsche 914 four-cylinder engine sizes and transmission types. Note that
the elimination of domed pistons combined with heightened emission control
on the 1.8L Porsche 914 models
sapped enough power that its performance is inferior to the smaller
(non-California) 1.7L
engine... even with the SPORTOMATIC transmission. Note that the 1973-1974
2.0L "GA" engine type outperforms the 1975-1976 "GC" engine type
due to the introduction of more rigorous (and power-sapping) emission
controls. Not surprisingly, the Porsche 914/6 has no difficulty
out-accelerating the four cylinder models (even when equipped with the
4-speed "SPORTOMATIC" transmission). Individual
acceleration graphs including 1/4 mile and 1000 meter times and speeds
for the 1.7 Liter SPORTOMATIC, 1.7 Liter manual, 1973 1.7 Liter
California specification, 1.8 Liter and 2.0 Liter
four cylinder Porsche 914 models as well as the 914/6 SPORTOMATIC and
914/6 5-speed are accessible via the green buttons to
the left. All charts have been created using information culled directly
from factory Porsche 914 Owner's Manuals and factory Porsche
"Technical Data" folders. |
